Toolkits

In class each child has a folder with a Toolkit for Mathematics, Reading and Writing.
The Toolkits have different Levels matched to the National Curriculum levels, ranging from Pre L1 to L5. Each level is divided into 3 sub levels - c (lower end of the level), b (middle of the level) and a (top end of the level).

The National age related expectations for children to reach by the end of each year group is as follows:

Year 1 1a
Year 2 2b
Year 3 3c
Year 4 3a
Year 5 4c
Year 6 4a

Each sub level on the Toolkit has a set of objectives or “I can statements” e.g. for Maths - I can say my number bonds to 10.

During each lesson one or more of these statements may match the learning objective of the lesson and the children can tick on the particular Toolkit, whether they think they have understood the objective. This can then be verified at a later date by the teacher when the children revisit the work.

Toolkits are there to help your child work more independently, to understand more clearly the objectives of the lesson, and to help them work out what they need to do next to improve their work.
