School Council

The School Council was set up to enable the children to have a say in the running of their own school. In this way, our children have a greater sense of belonging, become more confident when putting forward ideas and develop a greater understanding of the need to work co-operatively for the good of others.

As well as a School Council each class has a Class Council. The School Council meets once every half-term to discuss a variety of topics that may have been raised by Class Councils or as a result of previous meetings or because of new developments in school.

Every class selects one child to become their class councillor. This child has the responsibility to raise issues in the Class Council Agendas which are sent to every class every 1/2 term to discuss. (These also include a summary of  previous actions taken so our children are aware of what is going on and the actions taken since the last Whole School Council meeting.)

Points raised are then discussed in Phases at Phase Councils and finally in a Whole School Council during which minutes are taken.  To see copies of Whole School Council minutes, click here.

Last year the School Council had major inputs into many areas of school development. Some of these included...

  • Miners memorial project - Helping to choose a memorial for Cinderhill Island.
  • The MegaRead project
  • Extreme Reading Competition
  • Improving golden time and lunchtimes
