Phonics
Phonics in Foundation is taught using letter sounds and actions to help the children remember them. The actions are made at the same time as the letter sound.
Aa: Open hand to mouth to bite an apple.
Bb: Pat hand up and down like bouncing a ball.
Cc: Cupped hand to mouth like cough.
Dd: Digging action.
Ee: Press arm to chin like an elephants trunk.
Ff: Cross arms with hands on forearms pretend to be freezing.
Gg: Fingers walking down arm like going somewhere.
Hh: Breathing on palm of hand.
Ii: Bend arm fingers run up arm like insect.
Jj; Juggle with two hands.
Kk: Use two fingers on palm like legs to 'kick' a football.
Ll: Licking an imaginary lolly.
Mm: Rub tummy like hungry.
Nn: Rub nose.
Oo: Put thumbs together and dangle fingers like octopus legs.
Pp: Pointing with index finger.
Q: Putting on a crown like a Queen.
R: Hands at either side of face like paws, animal 'rrrr'.
Ss: Move hand and arm side to side like snake.
Tt: Arm downwards ticking clock.
Uu: Clench both hand on top of each other like opening an umbrella.
Vv: Pretend to play a violin.
Ww: Wave hand.
Xx: Make x with arms.
Yy: Pretend to use a yo yo.
Zz: Pretend to zip coat.
