What is Eco-Schools?

Eco-Schools is an international award programme that will guide Ambleside Primary School on its sustainable journey. The government want all schools to be sustainable schools by the year 2020.

Joining the Eco-Schools programme is free and it makes tackling sustainable issues manageable and easy. It provides a framework for us to help embed sustainable principles into the heart of school life.

How will we become an Eco-School?

There are seven steps which we all schools have to take to become an Eco-School.

1.     Form an action team.
2.     Carry out an environmental review.
3.     Develop an action plan.
4.     Create an Eco code for the school.
5.     Involve the whole school and wider community in Eco work.
6.     Link Eco schools into the curriculum.
7.     Monitor and evaluate progress.

When will we become an Eco school?

Great news! Ambleside Primary School has achieved 'Bronze' status which has been given to recognise our achievement in working towards a sustainable lifestyle.

Eco Schools Bronze Certificate

The Bronze and Silver awards are self-assessed online and trust is placed on the ‘Eco team’ here at Ambleside Primary School to complete this process.

As soon as we have been successful and achieved our next award we will let you know.

Clean Up Your Act

In response to the concerns of local residents about litter on the streets, we were asked to make a short film with the 'eco team' at Ambleside Primary School.

We worked in school to film the live actors (who all played themselves) and then with the eco team to animate the litter and draw the backgrounds.

Here's the result! The film is now going to be used as a resource and talking point in other schools and community groups around Nottingham city, along with supporting materials online.
